Description
Reigning for years as a favorite band at Harlem’s Savoy Ballroom, Hawkins introduced this famous tune in a 1939 recording and later adopted it as his theme. Both his version and the slower (better-known) Glenn Miller arrangement https://youtu.be/qZJ5ecPHgQ8 were solid sellers for Bluebird during the early months of 1940. The title referred to a street-car terminal in the Birmingham, Alabama, suburb of Ensley.
The original 78rpm single was issued on Bluebird 10409 - Tuxedo Junction (Johnson-Dash-Hawkins) by Erskine Hawkins & his Orchestra, recorded July 18, 1939
