“O Barquinho” is a beautiful bossa nova song by Brazilian guitarist Roberto Menescal, co-written by Ronaldo Boscoli. My favorite recording is by the Brazilian singer Nara Leão where Roberto Menescal himself plays the guitar.
The harmonic structure of “O Barquinho” is very interesting and quite unusual. The basic structure is a descending movement of Major7 chords, that are connected by intermediate dominants.
In my solo guitar arrangement I have made some changes to the song. In addition to a much slower tempo than usual, I also modified the chord progression a little. These chords and the slow tempo as well as the modern sound of the Godin Multiac nylon electric guitar result in a very atmospheric, ballad-like arrangement.
